West Ham & Beckton Conservatives have launched a petition calling for the junction of Plaistow High Street and Clegg Street to be made safer for pedestrians.
Currently the junction is a nightmare to cross, with no pedestrian lights on two sides. This is despite the crossing serving a high footfall of pedestrians, including children, older people and those with disabilities, and is in close proximity to schools and local amenities.
Problems with this junction have been raised with the Labour Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, going back over five years. He made clear that it was down to the Labour-run Council to request that this be resolved, but it is still the same. (Question to the Mayor of London asked by Andrew Boff, Conservative London Assembly Member, in October 2018.)
We want local residents to feel safe when in the community. James Clifford, candidate for the Plaistow North by-election, has raised the issue with many and shown the junction to both Susan Hall, Conservative candidate for Mayor of London, and Freddie Downing, local Conservative candidate for the London Assembly.
We have now launched a petition calling for the junction to be improved. You can sign it here: Make Pedestrians safer.
