The Conservative Party has today announced Terri Bloore as their candidate for Mayor of Newham, offering residents a fresh, unifying and practical alternative for the borough’s future.
Terri’s campaign will be driven to bring back financial trust in Newham Council. She believes a thriving local economy and resilient neighbourhoods go hand in hand - with successful businesses creating jobs, investment and opportunity, while strong communities provide safety, stability and belonging.
The Newham mayoral race is widely seen as strategically important for national and Greater London due to its location, economic power and diverse demographics. Newham is seen as the bellwether of modern Britain. It was announced that the current Labour Mayor (2018 to date) will not stand again in May after a turbulent year where the council narrowly avoided bankruptcy.
Terri said:
Under Labour, Newham has one of the highest council tax bands for 2025/26, with an increase of 9% to avoid potential bankruptcy. Last year, Newham received the unwelcome title of littering capital of the country, along with the most knife crime offences. It is unforgivable. Not only that the council received a scathing report by the Regulator of Social Housing, highlighting huge housing safety and repair backlogs. It’s time for change.
As Mayor, Terri Bloore will focus on policies that support enterprise, protect residents and strengthen community life across Newham.
Her key policy priorities include:
- Rebuilding Financial Trust & Transparency: A call for more efficient management and reducing wasteful spending.
- Reducing Council Tax and Evaluating Services: Protect vital, front-line services and reducing the financial burden on residents.
- Housing and Development: Prioritising the development of housing for residents, addressing the high number of households in temporary accommodation, and support for leaseholders
- Tackling anti-social behaviour, improving street cleanliness, and addressing, parking.
- Economic Growth: Supporting local businesses and boosting the local economy through targeted, pro-business policies.
Charles Meaby, East Ham Conservatives & long-time resident said:
Newham has extraordinary potential but has never witnessed the opportunities that a Conservative led council could bring. It is a shame and we have seen this in the mishandling of the Borough in the past decades. With the right leadership, we can support local businesses, restore trust in local government, and build communities where people feel safe, listened to and proud to live.
Terri added:
Newham deserves leadership that unites people around what we have in common — pride in our borough, ambition for our families, and a belief that hard work should be rewarded. I want to move away from politics that divides and focus instead on practical solutions that work for everyone.
